The iW7011 is a 6-channel LED backlight driver optimized to provide flexibility and simplicity in designing medium to large-size edge-lit and direct-lit LCD display panels. It uses digital control to provide both the control for the DC/DC boost circuit and all the monitoring and feedback for the LED drivers. The digital control engine allows timing delays to be set, which simplifies design by enabling one part to be used for both 2D and 3D TVs. The digital core and the precision DAC allow for 2% channel-to-channel matching and 0.5% absolute accuracy on each channel, to deliver uniform brightness across the entire LCD panel. Since the boost MOSFETs and LED current sinks are external, voltages and currents are easily scalable, providing flexibility to meet the requirements of medium to large panels. The iW7011 provides accurate dimming control, supporting 14-bit dimming resolution at 120Hz via SPI or direct, phase-shifted dimming options. The iW7011 provides comprehensive, programmable protection features, including protection from LED strings open and short conditions, along with protection for the boost converter for over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature conditions.
